i watched you gun her down
in the springtime of her life
you hugged the trigger to yourself
and let death fly wingless through the morning air
each bullet kissed a quivering bud
she tumbled in a halo of light and fair hair,
hit the verdant green, turned a scarlet mess
her eyes shined empty skies amidst the bloody grass
white daisies blushed and crowned her pretty head
you closed her eyes and walked unseeing into night
the grass cut my feet as i ran away blind
but to this day i can see her stare
and her pale limbs and fairer hair
lying dead among the daisies and the scarlet dew
